"The coming election in the United States is really all about the future political direction the country will become.. It is a choice between Collective Socialism and Free Market Capitalism.. It will determine the leadership and future direction of the Free World..
It also will have a significant impact on the Bahamas as well.. If the United States introduces major tax increases across the board, consumer discretionary income will collapse while price inflation will raise the cost of living.. There will be little individual earnings left over for overseas resort vacations or even lower cost Caribbean cruises.. In addition, the cost of imported goods, food, energy and services will increase significantly in costs to Bahamian consumers..
Perhaps now is time for all Bahamians to start to think objectively about what is really in the best interests of our struggling nation's economic future.. Without the benevolent support of our good neighbor the United States, our future goal to once again become a prosperous nation may be called into doubt.. For in the end, like it or not, the best interests of our Bahamas are the identical interests of the United States..
By year end, the United States will have developed in record time a miracle vaccine to counter the terrible pandemic virus that is infecting the Bahamas and the rest of the world.. As a nation we must hopefully request a share of this medical miracle for the health and welfare of our people.. We also should try to remember that "operation warp speed" could only happen in a capitalistic balance between government priorities and free market sector objectives..
In passing, one is reminded of the outstanding book by Peter Drucker, "The Practice of Management" which has become a classic in business schools through the world.. The book's theme, Management by Objectives was as true in 1954, the year the text was first published, as it is true today in Free Market Capitalistic economies.. Druker's work has become the bible of business management for many aspiring student's of business management theory and practices.. Many of the practices of "operation warp speed" perhaps can be attributed to Druker's thinking as well..
