Well, that didn’t take long to get very tired of being forced to listen to Deputy Leader of the PLP, Chester Cooper; who would appear to have been well taught, by “Brave” Davis and Glenys Hanna Martin, in the art of putting foot in mouth. Probably the only thing in his favour, he is not quite as boring as his Party Leader.
His latest outburst concerning BPL’s notification of increases in billings to we, the long-suffering customers, to pay for corporate borrowings, was little short of extra ordinary, much shouting and screaming and the usual PLP half truths even to include claims of taxation being raised by BPL.
However it must be said DPM and Acting Prime Minister K. Peter Turnquest must be complimented on his immediate responses which totally destroyed Cooper’s bluster. He pointed out that BPL is a stand- alone company which must raise funds to pay for its debts, and if it can’t go to its customers then, and only then, Government will have to step-in and raise taxes to pay for those debts, and, incidentally, BPL does not nor cannot raise taxes.
Mr. Turnquest then suggested that if Cooper really wants to know the cause of BPL’s problems he just has to ask the senior members of his own party.
One certainly appreciates it is the duty of an Opposition to find fault with the actions of a Government but, please, do not make noise just for the sake of making noise, very quickly nobody will be listening.
