There is a popular opinion that The Bahamas can easily move to solar energy as our source for electricity. After all we're still burning diesel fuel, in some cases Bunker C, to generate power for our daily lives.
While we've been carrying our green bags to the supermarket for years, drive a fuel efficient car, tried a solar water heater until the roof started to leak,, I remain skeptical about solar energy.
Then we get videos like this circulating social media...
Where is the cost benefit analysis for generating solar energy to power New Providence alone?
How much land mass would be involved to power New providence alone?
What does it cost to outfit the average home with a self contained power supply?
How long will this conversion take?
The list can go on and on.
I try to be as "green" as the next guy but the discussion loses me when videos are designed to fuel resentment rather than honest discussions about potential solutions.
Billionaire Robert F. Smith is as well intentioned as the next guy, but I'd bet he's be the first to call for a cost benefit analysis before investing in the solar plant necessary to power New Providence alone, not to mention the sparsely populated Family Islands.
