M.P. McAlpine has already been lambasted for his lack of concern for his constituents; I now wish to heap yet more scorn on this sorry example of a member of parliament. I understand McAlpine took part in the “march” recently evidently because he had nothing better to do! I would suggest that if McAlpine had such interest in his constituents and also all other Bahamians he could, perhaps, do some work and investigate, instead of going off “half-cocked.”
If McAlpine, and all the other “hangers-on,” would only study their electricity bills they would note there has been no increase in BPL rates for a considerable period of time, however, what has increased and quite dramatically is the “fuel” surcharge which, one year ago (October, 2017) was 11.7cents per kilowatthour; this year, for October, 2018, that charge was 19.15cents/kph.
The cause of this huge hike in the “fuel” cost is because the international price of oil has dramatically increased this year compared with last, 2017 the average price for a barrel of crude oil was just over $50 this year, as of last Friday (16th) that average price had shot up to almost $67, a 34% increase.
So, contrary to popular myth, BPL have not increased their rates, so if anybody wants rates reduced or money back speak with Sir Franklyn, “the snake,” Wilson and the Bahamas taxman, who are the ones responsible for these extortionate energy prices.
