A few months ago there was quite a furor about penalties to be levied against utility companies in particular if they were to dig up newly laid road surfaces, an admiral idea, except that idea needs to be carried a little further. A couple of weeks ago BPL (or BEC, if you prefer) dug up a small section of Grove Avenue in the Western district, not a major thoroughfare, but quite heavily trafficked by commuters. Unfortunately they completed their works filled in the holes and a quite narrow trench across the road and left; we are still awaiting the crew to put the top surface on the work, in the meantime we, the tax-paying driving public, have to drive over this very sharp edged trench, hoping our tires do not burst! Could we suggest that when these road works are finished the company or utility has (say) three business days to ensure the road is put back to the same condition prior to works being started, otherwise those penalties will accrue?
Pensioners, in particular, do not have money to waste.
