Dr. Minnis, Prime Minister of The Bahamas has reportedly set undercover agents to patrol stores to guard against price gouging. Tribune, July 3, 2018.
Well blow me down.
Who in government or the private sector is able to determine what an "unsubstantiated price hike" is in the first place?
I can understand a consumer not buying a product or service because they think the price is too high or not within their budget but a roving undercover agent can determine a business is price gouging?
Why not have undercover agents roving government agencies scouting out bribe takers for government goods and services?
Why not a bureau or agents to determine taxes are too high?
Last I checked this is a free country and there is a competitive market for goods and services. And businesses from our neighbour to the Northwest will be happy to sell a good or service to consumers.
Now the government will decide what the price of goods and services should be. What a joke we are becoming.
Will the last person leaving turn the lights off please?
