“In our age there is no such thing as 'keeping out of politics.' All issues are political issues, and politics itself is a mass of lies, evasions, folly, hatred and schizophrenia.” George Orwell
The press has been focused recently on four government Parliamentarians that voted against a budget that is set to increase taxes in an effort to right the fiscal ship of state come July 1, 2018.
While those MP's oppose the increase of Value Added Tax (VAT) to 12 percent, no suggestions on how to resolve the country's fiscal quagmire seem to be forthcoming.
However, the Opposition has seized on what they think is a political opportunity to double their ranks from four to eight in the supposedly "Hallowed Halls of Parliament".
Who can blame them you might ask but it just confirms that politics is not really about solving the country's issues as is the claim. It is about power of the numbers and keeping or gaining the seat of power for the most part.
As far back as 1967, according to Mr. Edmund Moxey, "decision making and policy planning" was limited to an isolated group causing the eventual defection of the "Dissident Eight" from the then ruling political party.
Fast forward to 2018 and the Opposition is on one hand applauding the action of the four MP's that voted against their government's proposed policy, while implementing a programme in their party that will supposedly prevent their future candidates and MP's from leaving the party or voting against their proposed policies should they become the government again in the future.
Is there any wonder the country is floundering in so many ways?
The dichotomy of politics seems more about a web of deceit than truly working to solve the country's woes.
