Why, oh why, does our Bahamian Political Class REFUSE to listen to a) their employees and b) the general public. Why is the Minister responsible for the Post Office, like his PLP predecessor, insisting on taking on someone else’s cast-off, a building for the “new” Post Office, and that cast-off is located in “the back of beyond” on Gladstone Road? His Post Office staff have been telling their management for at least 12 years that the ideal place to build their own new Post Office building is on the southern end of the general car park immediately to the west of the current building. The advantages outweigh any disadvantages, it would be a purpose built facility designed to the strict, safe and specific requirements of a modern Post Office and not some cobbled together old building designed for a simple retail venture. Also it would remain in the centre of Nassau easily accessible for people from all over the island; and tourists will be able to safely use it instead of worrying whether the Gladstone Road area is safe oh, and where the h*ll is Gladstone Road anyway?
Is there a worry about lost parking; shouldn’t be as hardly anyone is going to risk that condemned place anyway. And as soon as the new building is completed the old one, as the Minister was proudly boasting will be “blown up!” And a new parking lot is ready for use.
Not only will the Post Office-using public thank you but the Post Office staff will thank you especially those who do not and/or cannot afford private vehicles and must use public transport or good old shank’s pony (legs and feet) to get to work.
For ever in hope
