The coercive power of government doesn't
Pierre Poilievre makes the case brilliantly in his recent speech to the Canadian Parliament while debating the Budget Implementation Act of 2017.
He offers great advice on how to build a just and prosperous society.
He also mentions one of my favourite economists, Steve Horwitz. Find out more about Professor Horwitz here...
Here's a few snippets:
"In all these cases (outlined in the video) the government is using coercive force to appropriate more and more of the economy and favour those who have the most political power. And all of those people are rich."
"Therefore, when the government claims it is expanding its power and control over the economy to help the less fortunate, I ask that at the very least this house look upon those claims with great skepticism."
"I ask that instead this House whould favour the free market where people are judged on their merits, on their contributions, and on the voluntary exchange of goods and services that requires of every single person who wants to get ahead to offer someone else something worth more to him or her than what it costs. That is the free market, that is true empathy, and that is the way we build a just and prosperous society."
