According to this article Minister of Public Works Desmond Bannister is “disgusted” by the leaks of personal information from Bahamas Power and Light (BPL) and the Water and Sewerage Corporation (WSC), which revealed outstanding bills from several former and at least one sitting parliamentarian."
Of course this is deplorable, but against the backdrop of how members of the former government attempted to embarrass people they thought opposed them, it does not surprise me that people would seek to get their own back so to speak.
The other aspect of this mess that is infuriating is the public utilities, supposedly owned by the "people" could allow the elite to owe so much money for so long for their electricity and water supplies.
The public corporations are continually subsidised by the Bahamian taxpayer and have unreconciled legacy debt that ultimately has to be paid one way or another. It is simply unconscionable that the political class could consider for a second that owing for the services of these corporations could remotely be acceptable.
Bannister is right of course, but it is all so sickening.
