Bahamians are wondering how they can get on BPL’s privileged list that allows people to rack up electricity bills of thousands of dollars without paying.
Turns out you just need to be a parliamentarian, senator, senior civil servant or a church and you are in according to a former parliamentarian. See here… and here…
It galls me that these practices are allowed and these same politicians look us in the eye and tell us they need to raise our electricity rates or increase the fuel surcharge because the corporation is having financial difficulties.
Not only that, they borrow money at the taxpayer expense that has to cover these debts and then they charge the tax payer Value Added Tax.
And to top it off we're told income tax may well be in the cards?
Being elite might bestow privileges, but to the detriment of everyone else? It just sickens me.
Seems the privilege for those of us that are unconnected is to pay for this slackness.
There's an old Bahmian saying that seems appropriate: Time longer than rope.
