In unmistakable language, Mr. Shayne Gibson, PLP Minister of Labour and National Insurance, laid it out for all to see in his recent interview about Nationalised Health Insurance.
In a nutshell he made it known that the government is proceeding with their plan regardless of logical feedback.
The attempts to cloud their use of force with ad hominem attacks against various groups instead of answering the questions and concerns is obvious. But it seems when you cannot argue your position with facts it's easier to attack the other persons character.
The government believes it does not have to cooperate with the very public that pays their salaries. They can force their will on everyone else because they have the power to do so.
In other words, the Minister appears to believe he is entitled to hold other people hostage against their will because he writes the law.
However, the overarching concern should be our freedom. Forcing doctors and insurers to accept the terms they dictate is not sound or logical public policy. Where will this stop? Nationalised legal services? Nationalised architectural services? How about Nationalised banking and real estate sales?
Not only will the limits of government power continue to be expanded, when more deficits and debt are piled on to an already broken economy, what happens then?
“The Seductive Lure of Socialism Here I encounter the most popular fallacy of our times. It is not considered sufficient that the law should be just; it must be philanthropic. Nor is it sufficient that the law should guarantee to every citizen the free and inoffensive use of his faculties for physical, intellectual, and moral self-improvement. Instead, it is demanded that the law should directly extend welfare, education, and morality throughout the nation. This is the seductive lure of socialism. And I repeat again: These two uses of the law are in direct contradiction to each other. We must choose between them. A citizen cannot at the same time be free and not free.” ― Frédéric Bastiat, The Law
But make no mistake, Mr. Gibson and his government are going to give it to everyone good and hard simply because they can. Feasibility doesn't appear matter. Symbolism does though.
Yet, people will still be dying from illness and many more will be left complaining while asking government to fix more problems they've created.
We bemoan government yet expect them to fix themselves. Go figure.
The unfortunate thing about public policies like this is the people that created the monster will not have to suffer with it.
