Casting aspersions solves nothing

As we're reeling from the United States alert that US Embassy staff and visitors should not patronize Jet Ski operators as a result of "increasing" sexual assaults, the Minister of Transport responds that the alleged attacker was not a licensed Jet Ski operator.

Where's the regret and details of contemplated corrective measures?

While one can understand the defense of legitimate operators poking your finger in the eye of your largest tourist market seems silly at best.

One letter being circulated quoted rape statistics in Florida as a defence as if that was relevant to what is happening here.

Sure, some US officials are found wanting with their behavior.

And yes, it can be annoying when the US flexes her muscles once in a while, but again, that is nothing to do with us unilaterally getting our house in order.

It's a sad day when we try to defend the indefensible by casting aspersions.

I know we can do better as a people. Obfuscation just doesn't look or feel right.
