It doesn’t seem to matter who or where one bumps into friends and acquaintances there is an uneasiness. The list of concerns is getting longer, but here’s a few of them.
Murder is out of control
Government does not seem able to tighten up on it’s spending and waste
Corruption is rampant
Taxes are outrageous
It’s not long before someone says, “if I was younger I would move away” or “I wish I could move my house to another country” and more.
Inevitably when I come away from one of these chance meetings I think of the following quote from Atlas Shrugged by Ayn Rand:
“…when you see that in order to produce, you need to obtain permission from men who produce nothing–when you see that money is flowing to those who deal, not in goods, but in favors–when you see that men get richer by graft and by pull than by work, and your laws don’t protect you against them, but protect them against you–when you see corruption being rewarded and honesty becoming a self-sacrifice–you may know that your society is doomed…”
So much of what we see going on around us seems to be out of the pages of Atlas Shrugged. We see the looters and moochers and the damage they do to the producers and workers all around us.
If you’ve never read Atlas Shrugged I highly recommend it.
Are we going to “shrug”?
