According to this report in the Nassau Guardian Prime Minister Christie wants to negotiate the NHI with the Bahamas Insurance Association in private. i.e. Mr. Christie wants to "negotiate behind closed doors" so the taxpaying public is unaware of what is being decided.
In fact he wants to silence the BIA as he did the Bahamas Chamber over VAT, and basically says so in the article linked above.
It will be a shame if the BIA as well as the Doctors choose the route of closed door negotiations proposed by the government. In fact they should up the ante and demand televised discussions so the public is really aware of what is happening.
Until the Government of The Bahamas is willing to be completely open and honest with the actions the Cabinet Members and Members of Parliament are taking with issues like this the economic future of our country remains in doubt.
