It does not look like the Bahamar situation is going to work out to the liking of the Christie Administration, primarily due to the timing of what seems to many like a hostile take-over. This is the wrong time for that kind of stuff; Cuba has opened its doors, our economy is still trying to recover and what is most troubling is the possibility of “Chinese ownership” of a major economic touristic superstructure so close to the Eastern seaboard. Maybe I am just one of those conspiracy theorists, but there are some things you do not allow if you are dependent on one country and you seek to be involved with another nation that holds a different ideology; you keep your situations “manageable”.
As I read the local papers, I am confused as to whether there is a Chapter 11 or Chapter 7 proceeding going on, with all of this talk of liquidation. Maybe the Government has overstepped its boundaries on this issue; an entity that more than equals your annual budget does present some issues if you want to talk about “stepping in”. If you do step in, a partnership of sorts will be required, and in spite of all of the confusion going on that partner may be already in the wings, waiting. The government needs to pick up its marbles and slowly back out towards the door on this one and put a muzzle on some of its members who seem to have something to say about anything and everything. Personality driven leadership cultures have a tendency to attack those who differ along those lines and the CEO of Bahamar, may have a good chance of getting some money from some persons after the smoke has cleared.
I am praying that the Government takes a long look at what it is doing and what it thinks it will achieve; we cannot afford to have a rerun of Freeport (Hawksbill Creek Agreement), in a place that is only 21 by 7. Even more importantly, even the appearance of catering to a Super-power that is half way around the world, while we are in a cough and sneeze relationship with another Super-power less than a 100 miles away; upon whom our economy is “kind of dependent”, has some inherent problems.
