Does anybody else experience the awe and wonderment and that warm and fuzzy feeling at the workings of our Ministry of Works and its over-worked (sic) Minister? …. err …. no? Didn’t think so! Minister Davis, one does have to wonder what is so difficult in taking time on radio and television and advertising inches in the national press to advise we simple Bahamians, you know, you’re employers, of closure of major roads in our capital city. I take the example of Poinciana Drive between Baillou Hill Road and Nassau Street. This major thoroughfare is being resurfaced (at last!!) and was started from last week-end (14th. June). I have still not seen a single notification in the press nor heard any advice of works on news programmes; and heaven forbid that this same Ministry should erect diversion signs to assist the travelling public to by-pass these works!
When I did take the initiative and go “across country” to go around these works my attempt was blocked by a police cruiser totally blocking the road to question people in another car. There was adequate space for the police car to be moved off the road, but the officers completely ignored me forcing me to back-up a quite substantial distance. Commissioner Greenslade are you reading this, please?
Yours in shock and horror,
Harry Strachan
