If we take an honest look around, the ineffectiveness of government surrounds us, yet on the other hand, so many of us call for them to do more and more.
Education is failing our kids.
Crime seems out of control.
Public debt continues to escalate.
Taxes are ever on the increase.
I would never suggest the private sector is perfect mind you, but the harm they cause is generally so much less than that of our out of control leviathan called our government.
Yet, with ever mounting evidence we continue to call for more government to solve our day to day problems.
As Tibor Machan noted in this article entittled Skepticism about Government Regulation:
"...In our time, too, there is ample evidence that people share Hobbes' misjudgment when they believe that problems in our society require, first and foremost, extensive and powerful interference by governments..."
So we need to ask ourselves when we say let the government do it is, who is going to control the controller as we develop more and more government to "nudge" us? Particularly when we analyse governments track record.
