From a public relations point of view the IAAF World Relays Bahamas 2015 (May 2 - 3) and the Bahamas Junkanoo Carnival (May 7 - 9) might present a great opportunity but I suspect they will cost the country a great deal.
We know $9 million is budgeted for the carnival with $6 million already spent. And judging from the cost of the 2014 the relays will cost Bahamians at least another $3.5 million.
So $12.5 million in taxpayer funds are being disbursed, but what is intriguing is the income is never revealed.
Oh sure we'll have grand speeches about how great we are that these events can be pulled off, thanks to many people that volunteer their time as well by the way, and meanwhile the deficit swells.
For people charged with the awesome responsibility of the public purse it seems that symbolism is worth more tax dollars than programmes with substance yet again.
