The Speaker of the House of Assembly appears to be taking the proverbial bull by the horns in relation to investigating financial abuse allegations at Urban Renewal, purportedly uncovered during a review of their records by the Auditor General.
One of the younger generation PLP's, Dr. Major is a man of principle, and as Speaker of the House of Assembly he has exhibited a sense of fair play, as members of both political parties tend to over react from time to time.
Dr. Major and I met when we were president of our respective Rotary Clubs in 1995 - 1996. He was president of the Rotary Club of West Nassau and I was president of the Rotary Club of East Nassau.
The Four Way Test of Rotary asks Rotarians to consider:
1. Is it the truth.
2. Is it fair to all concerned.
3. Will it build goodwill and better friendships, and
4. Is it beneficial to all concerned.
Should Dr. Major utilise this simple code of ethics in his deliberations, this bodes in his favour for making a fair decision for the country (not one political party or the other) in this matter.
And I believe he is a man of honour who will be guided by these tenets.
