That's the headline from The Punch of Thursday, January 22, 2015, and it leaves me speechless. Well almost.
Is it that people can't afford the tax to register their guns each year?
Or, could it be the number of laws on our books are too many to be enforced in a timely manner if at all?
If nothing else it might prove our inability to carry out the responsibilities being heaped on the bureaucracy by Parliament that seems to think that writing a law and grandstanding while passing it, solves the problem.
The real issue the country faces however, is not those that have licensed their shotguns guns and rifles with the Police, it's with those that have hand guns that are banned by law anyway and have no intention of licensing them.
Instead of arresting people that have previously licensed their legally purchased guns, drop the tax and go after those that have not registered their guns.
Should parliament stop licensing of hand guns and rifles altogether if the law is only being used to make criminals of people? If you must "do something" make it a registry.
A penny for your thoughts?
