Watching the ZNS cover of the inaugural IAAF World Relays I listened in shock to Mr. Neville Wisdom demanding that we should have an invocation to start this event. If this was a domestic national event, then, perhaps, I would concur, however, Mr. Wisdom, I am quite sure you, of all people, are fully aware this was an international sports meeting and, as such, any form of religious celebration was not appropriate, the potential to offend and alienate some of our guests was too great.
From what I have read we entertained athletes from China, Japan, Saudi Arabia and Qatar, none of these are Christian nations; I am open to correction but I do not believe Kenya nor Ethiopia are Christian; Cuba, by government decree, is Atheist, these just to name a few.
I would also debate your comment that we are a Christian nation, sorry sir, we are a nation of church-goers, and we have a considerable number of people who can quote substantial tracts from scripture by heart, however, these do not make us a Christian nation; and sir, I assume you also consider yourself a Christian? If that is the case, pray tell, why were you working for ZNS on the Christian Sabbath, when my bible, anyway, states that the good Lord above completed His travails in six days and rested on the seventh day, He then asked us to rest and revere His holy name every seventh day?
