This recent post at Reason.com about gas prices and what the president of the US can do about them stopped me in my tracks.
Obviously there isn't much the president can do about gas prices, but that didn't stop the Democrats of the day raising eternal hell about "skyrocketing " gas prices.
Here at home, the PLP, the Opposition party back then, were doing the same thing.
Before the election in May 2012 the continuous babble was how the FNM government of the day was responsible for anything bad.
Now that the PLP are the government they seem content with everything that was bad just a few months ago.
Surely if we are ever going to advance any further as a nation the political class has to be more consistent and less biased?
As the Reason article points out partisan or ideological bias is why Democrats are quiet today about "skyrocketing" gas prices in the US and I would bet dollars to donuts that's the same reason the PLP has gone silent on the issues they were so rabid about.
It will be interesting to see how the FNM reacts if they win the next government. Will they remain vigilant and fix the things they complained so bitterly about, or will bygones be bygones after the win. In other words will they be deliberately biased too?
As one former Deputy Prime Minister rejoiced after his party won a general election; "To the victor goes the spoils".
In the final, we the people have to stop accepting the rhetoric.
