"The act of reaching into one's own pockets to help a fellow man (or personally volunteering) in need is praiseworthy and laudable. Reaching into someone else's pocket is despicable and worthy of condemnation." (Emphasis added) Professor Walter Williams
Following up on this post from yesterday the questions that keeps coming into my mind is why we believe that government "compassion" should remove personal responsibility?
Even if we buy into governments pronouncements that they will only help those most destitute, history shows where these programmes are continually expanded until they get out of control. It even displaces private charity when people are taxed so others can receive help, most people think, and rightly so, that they've done their share.
Governments continue to reach into everyone's pockets and/or adding to the debt to fulfill the myth that they're helping.
Why does it turn out this way, time after time?
