The headline of Saturday's The Big T (The Tribune) scream out DISGUSTING with a photo of the public toilet at the Englerston park.
Glenys Hanna-Martin, the PLP MP for the area is rightfully quoted as stating there is simply not enough money to do everything the community needs.
Not only that, according to the article, the toilets were upgraded for the residents at taxpayer expense only about a year ago!
But what can be done?
In the long run it is important to implement local government in every Constituency so that residents will realise it is their responsibility to up keep the facilities that have been provided with everyone's tax dollars for them.
In the short run, the community activists, political and otherwise, in Englerston and the people that utilise the park and the facilities need to take the bull by the horns and clean it up.
In a nut shell I see this as an opportunity for the people of Englerston by taking care of the infrastructure that we've all contributed to on their behalf.
Or is it too much to ask citizens to take pride in their surroundings rather than calling on the government for everything?
Channeling their energy into getting things done themselves would set a great example for the rest of the country.
