Well it's that time again when we get to see how much more the government is going to borrow and how big the deficit will be projected to grow for the rest of this fiscal year.
Since Independence it's really become a joke. Fiscal prudence is never a thought to the many people that have frequented elected office since 1973.
Just once can we have a government minister stand up to say his Ministry has solved the problem it was established to deal with and the ministry should be shut down?
Or, just once can we have a government minister stand to say he or she wants a cut in the budget?
How about a reduction in taxes as government has been such a good steward of our tax dollars that they've saved money and have a surplus?
I'm sure the official opposition would have done all those things if only they were the government. And they'll tell us that without sharing ideas on how they would accomplish it to boot.
And I'll bet the lone representative from the new party has a magic wand to wave as well. All without concrete plans on how he will achieve it no doubt.
Okay, I know I sound cynical, but I only need point you to the historical record.
Yet, it seems we would rather believe rhetoric because, well, it sounds so good, particularly when they poke fun of each other so well.
I live in hope that they will prove me wrong just once. Yet I die in despair as the debt, defeicits and taxes all continue to rise with no respite in sight.
