The Government and The Criminal: Our murder count has once again passed a record. In a recent article the Commissioner of Police said "Far too many people get up everyday and do not go to a legitimate job, but rather go to a street corner where they sell illegal drugs. We arrest them, we take them to court, and we soon see them back on the streets again. Well they live in the Bahamas and you can't make them disappear." The PM has also recently commented "at the moment there is a degree of dis-functionality in relation to the legal, judicial system and tackling crime." The Minister of National Security always cries that the Government cannot prevent crime, which I fully agree with. However, they have the ability to implement the laws that will not allow persons easy access to bail. The current administration has been in power three out of the four recent terms and the judicial system has continued to deteriorate. Can or can they not tackle this? Speaking on Capital Punishment would be a complete waste of time with this crew! Dr Sweeting's Famous Traffic Light: Once again the traffic light at Village Road and Shirley Street is out. Is it meant to work or not? If not, take it down and remove the expectation that it should be working. Remember the "Broken Window" syndrome. If the Government cannot get traffic lights running properly, do you think they can oversee the administration of electronic anklets to be worn by persons on bail? The Straw Market:
Who owns and who is financing the Straw Market? The last time I checked it was "We the People." Did the straw vendors not recently tell the Minister of Works that they would do as they see fit when moving into the new Straw Market? What an insult to every tax paying citizen. I suggest on behalf of the majority of Bahamians that are footing the bill that the Government stand strong on this one. And I hope the Opposition won't milk this one for political gain.
Nasty Nassau:
I took a drive through Palmdale on Sunday and I suppose without having to concentrate on traffic, I could look at the surroundings. In some ways Nassau has become a shanty town. Next time you are in Palmdale take a look at the garbage that is spread across the property that use to house Faith Temple Church. Makes you realize the level of nasty people that live amongst us, with so little pride. What about the filthy condition of Bay Street? Does anybody else agree with using chain gangs to get this town cleaned up? Perhaps they could wear the electronic monitoring devices while washing down Bay Street.
A Special Thank you to my MP:
Almost one month ago I sent my MP an email regarding an issue in my neighborhood. It is the first time that I have ever emailed my MP. I got an automated response thanking me for my email and stating that it would be personally read and responded to. That was it folks, I have heard no more. Thanks to my MP anyway.
Illegal Guns:
The recent armed robbery at Costrite once again highlighted the alarming trend of high powered weapons on our streets. Not that we did not already know this? However, is it that difficult to pass a law that if you are caught with an illegal firearm you will spend the next 20 years in jail with hard labour?
Nassau's Youth:
The cool weather has allowed me to drive to work in the morning with my window down and my route takes me through several school zones. I am blown away at the foul language used my students that look no older than 10! Are they learning, hearing and using this language at home? My parents would have washed my mouth out with soup in the past. Oh but I forgot, the left wing liberals won't allow this. I guess we will just have to get cussed out!
Until next time................................
