Christopher D. Lowe
It is an honest question, brought on by the glaring and often complete ignorance displayed by people whom I would otherwise consider to be intelligent people.
So what do I mean by lawful? I mean those who do not wander through life accidentally avoiding breaking any law, but who avoid breaking any law by design. I do not mean those who do break the law accidentally or intentionally and apparently get away with it either. Specifically, those who make the effort to be aware of the rule of law, and abide by it.
I do not profess to know everything, but I’ll be damned if I’ll find myself wanting when it comes to my rights and responsibilities as a citizen, nor will I be deprived of any rights granted under the laws of our country.
So my question remains, why do I seem to be an exception? It is not hard to find and read them, notwithstanding that the Government printing office is often out of copies of our rules and regulations, as are most Government departments who really do have the onus to inform the public on the rules and laws respective of their functions, but if I can find and familiarize myself in spite of this, and further read and understand them, why are so many clueless?
Is it that we have so placed our faith and fortunes in the hands of political personalities that we no longer need the personal protection that the rule of law provides? There by the grace of (insert Prime Ministers name here) go I?
That is just too horrific to contemplate, but it seems that the majority have done just that.
Nothing will change, until we step up to our individual obligation to know the law, and as citizens re-acquire it as our single and sole protection against arbitrary persecution and the cost to us of bad leadership.
We gained majority rule, and independence, but forgot the responsibility to ourselves that comes with it.
There lies our greatest downfall. The results of this are all around us, how could we have expected anything different?
