According to a Cuban News Agency story of August 19, 2010 "Lynden Pindling, director for Education of the Bahamas, expressed in Nassau his satisfaction for the work of Cuban pedagogues in his country." Read the entire story here...
Obviously they made a mistake (Sir Lynden died in August 2000), confusing the name of our airport with the representative of the Bahamas Ministry of Education that was there, but in order to "justify" their regime they are desperate for democratic countries to "validate" their teacher programme that is no more than modern day slavery.
The brief release also indicates that the teachers are part of the Fr. Felix Varela Brigade.
Wikipedia, among other details, says: "Varela was the founder of the first Spanish-language newspaper in the U.S., publishing many articles about human rights, as well as multiple essays on religious tolerance, cooperation between the English and Spanish-speaking communities, and the importance of education." I find it stomach-turning that the Cuban Regime, known for its political and religious intolerance, would name their programme of modern day slavery after a Catholic Priest that wrote about human rights and religious tolerance. And I'm not even religious!
It's too bad The Bahamas Government is only considering the "free" teachers we are receiving.
One would think all Bahamians would find this whole arrangement objectionable when considering the Cuban teachers are nothing more than chattel to their political masters.
