In recent months I've been avoiding listening to talk radio, not because I don't enjoy it, but time is of the essence in these tough economic times.
But in the past few days I've heard snippets of operatives of both major political parties and it's simply magniloquent (I had to look that up too!).
What I'm trying to say is neither party is responsible for a single failure in the country, even though everyone knows they are equally responsible for what's wrong.
The FNM blame the PLP, and PLP blame the FNM, yet there is very little difference in the two ideologies or policies they adopt. People tend vote for them because of family tradition or ties or because one group is believed to have wronged them etc.
Election campaigns are based on personality, not policy. Or rumour, not fact. Or magniloquence, not reason. Obviously there has to be a little "fun" at election rallies, but come on...
Digging a little deeper Parliament does not really run the country. In spite of parliamentarians protestations otherwise, Civil Servants run the country, and this is where our fundamental problems lie. Mind you there are many good Civil Servants.
Here's what my gut tells me. The average business is say 25 associates, but a government agency, ministry or department must average 100 people.
In this regard, consider the problems in a day in the average business where there is a measure of accountability to the customer. Now consider the multitude of things that must go wrong in government offices with little or no accountability.
Maybe the political class have created the mess we're in by favouring their chosen ones when they get into trouble, so now they only have bombastic accusations left in their arsenals because they don't have enough confidence to admit their mistakes and get on with fixing things without malice or favouritism.
What's your take?
