UsingEnglish.com says that "the courage of your convictions" means "you are brave enough to do what you feel is right, despite any pressure for you to do something different".
Lately I've been getting e-mails and comments suggesting that I seem to pick on the PLP a lot or I shouldn't always express things in terms of the PLP and FNM when it comes to public policy.
People should not have to explain themselves, but if the FNM are pursuing a public policy that we object to, we have a Constitutional right to say so. And if the PLP have pursued or will pursue the same failed policy or other detrimental policies we should also be able to state that without fear or favour.
If our objective is to see a better Bahamas, what's the problem with that?
For far too long FNM's and PLP's do not have the courage of their convictions to criticise their party if the results of their public policies do not achieve their stated ends.
PLP's will criticise FNM's and visa versa, but seldom do they object about their own, no matter how bad the policy or the results of the policy have been. They'll be quiet while their party is in power and never hesitate to complain when they are in opposition.
Why do you think this is the case? Why don't we have the courage of our convictions?
