For years, a constant cry of the Bahamian People has been the poor and inefficient service of our Government Departments and Agencies. We have all experienced the sour attitudes, chatting on the phone, slow service, eating chicken in the bag, the sense of entitlement in having a Government job, and the list goes on................
I recently had two encounters with the Road Traffic Department. One involved the renewal of an International License and the other the renewal of a local Bahamian License.
As always, the lady who deals with International Licenses was pleasant and courteous. She was helpful and as in years past, the license was sitting ready and waiting at the time she had stated. This was no surprise to me, as I have always had a positive experience with this individual.
What did surprise me, was my experience with the staff in renewing my local Bahamian license. The whole process took me under 10 minutes. I must admit during my visit the office was not crowded, however, I stood in amazement at the professionalism of the three staff members that I encountered and their sense of urgency. They worked efficiently without much talk, addressed clients in a professional manner, and gave the overall impression that they were there to get the job done. So surprised was I in my experience that I left the office and did not even say thank you.
So today, I publicly commend the Road Traffic Controller and his staff for the wonderful experience as a Client of the Bahamas Government.
Please keep up your efforts. In the long run they will not go unnoticed.
