Bahamians, particularly some of our politicians, believe we have to reinvent the wheel where public policy is concerned.
In fact, our present Minister of Health, when given the opportunity to receive free advice from a renowned health care economist, turned it down saying to your not so humble blogger that we do not need help with developing a health care programme for our country.
However, I recently came across a book that will help, in spite of his protestations.
First released in 2004, and compiled by Kiron K. Skinner, Annelise Anderson, and Martin Anderson, it's titled Reagan's Path to Victory.
The book contains many of the radio scripts that Reagan wrote himself on policy issues relating to the US. And it also includes a special treat - A CD of 20 of his original radio addresses.
I'm looking forward to diving into it in a couple weeks.
In the meantime, I hope you enjoy two of the recordings from the CD below. The first on Tax Limitation and the second on Freedom, both recorded in 1977.
If you are a budding politician, you should go out purchase the book. If you simply like politics and public policy as I do, it's worth having as well.
Who would have thought that Ronald Reagan could help us formalise our thoughts on these important matters, for a better future for The Bahamas?
