Two items in The Tribune Business of Thursday, February 14, 2008 caught my attention, like a red flag to a bull - taxpayer bailouts for the Water & Sewerage Corporation and the Airport Authority totalling about $33,000,000.
When will these bailouts end?
The two government corporations should have the capacity to at least break even. They have monopolies on the services they provide and there should be no reason for the bailouts to continue.
Why not privatise them both? Then the millionaire owners would take any losses, not the Bahamian taxpayer.
Sooner or later the chickens will come home to roost. And the fall out will impact all Bahamians. Unfortunately debris from these situations has a greater impact on the famous 'small man' that our politicians claim to care so much about.
