Much has been said and writtten about the merger of the printing and distribution of the Tribune and the Guardian with some people expressing the fear that the Tribune will be taking over the Guardian. They have both clearly stated what their intentions are and I believe that it makes good business sense.
What does really scare me is the statement by Mr. Wilchcombe that if he had been in a postiion to do so, he would have tried to stop the agreement. This is someone who has been mentioned as a possible leader of the opposition. In other words, regardless of the fact that the agreement between the two newspapers was perfectly legal, he would have tried to stop it! Will he and the rest of his party ever understand the role of Government?
I believe that in a small place like the Bahamas it would make even more sense if all the newspapers joined in the agreement. Then, I suppose, Mr. Wilchcombe would have had one of Bill Cosby's "conniption fits."
