Today is a public holiday here in The Bahamas.
Emancipation Day, the day of celebration set aside for the observation of the emancipation of slaves, and is marked on the first Monday in August each year.
Fox Hill, a community toward the eastern end of the island of New Providence (where the capital city of Nassau is), has a week of festivities each year, usually from August 1 through 6. Click here for a brief outline.
