With another school year coming to an end a few weeks back with more dismal results, I thought this lecture might interest some of our readers.
One question that keeps nagging at me is; why do we keep blaming dysfunctional families for the failure of education? The government controls the educational system do they not? To my mind, that makes them responsible for the results.
If single parent families are not able to cope helping children with their homework etc, then the system has to accommodate that. To paraphrase Lee Iacocca, a noted American industrialist, the government needs to lead, follow or get out of the way" in Bahamian Education.
