A friend sent a rather irate e-mail about the message being sent by Dr. Bernard Nottage, Senator and Minister of Health when he suggests that people have died because the National Health Insurance (NHI) scheme is not in place.
Their reasoning is if that is so all former Ministers of Health could be liable for Involuntary Manslaughter because present law provides for free medical care for those people that can't afford it as outlined in a previous blog.
The irate e-mailer went on to suggest that Bahamian law as presently written even provides for care outside of The Bahamas is the required treatment is not available here.
So why would BJ as the Minister of Health is affectionately known reduce such a critical issue as health care to such a base political level?
