So this week begins with news of a brawl involving defense force officers where it is alleged that they ganged an Inagua resident because he spoke to a female marine, who reportedly also expressed an interest.
Now, first of all, what is law enforcement doing engaging in a street brawl?
The deterioration of our society is rearing its ugly head on a daily basis, not only with the climbing murder rates but in our law enforcement.
When police and defense force officers feel they are above the law and that they can beat and bully people, who will be there to protect the public from these hooligans in uniform?
High Rock MP Kenneth Russell claimed some time ago that hooligans with criminal records were being hired as police/defense force officers. It appears that since Mr Russell's statements, recent acts involving police and defense force officers reflect that indeed hooligans and gangsters are being hired to police and defend our streets/waters.
Are the persons now being hired being vetted properly? Are they being psychologically evaluated?
I fully support the family of the Inaguan who was brutally beaten early Sunday morning. I urge you to sue, and sue these hooligans and the entity they are to represent to send a clear message to the other rogue elements in their ranks.
The Bahamian people deserve better than hearing of MPs brawling or law enforcement officers fighting like street gangsters. What has our society come to?
I don't believe in speaking ill of the dead, but could some of the blame for the violence in our society be laid at the feet of Lynden Pindling? Did Mr Pindling's questionable leadership during the drug years lead to the deterioration of our society to the point of no return?
Police Commissioner Farquharson, Defense Force Commodore Scavella......free the Bahamian people of the rogue, violent, indecent elements of your organizations that call themselves law enforcement officers.
