On Tuesday, November 21, 2006, Dr. Bernard Nottage, Senator, and Minister of Health, made a major national address on the governments intention to implement socialized health care.
However, it would appear that he is a little confused about whether or not one will have to pay to receive service.
At one point in his address he informs us that:
There must be a clear understanding that NHI is not ‘free’ and will only be responsible for health bills incurred by members of the Plan while non-members will be required to make their own arrangements to pay their bills. This will require strong commitment by policy and decision makers to eliminate compromise on this critical aspect of NHI sustainability.
Later in his address, he had this to say:
Unlike private insurance, NHI will provide portable insurance. That means that when you change jobs you do not lose coverage. It means that if you miss one or two payments, you do not lose coverage.
So what is it Dr. Nottage? Does one have to pay to claim or not?
Surely you're not just playing politics, are you? What am I thinking? You're a politician, so what should we expect but for you to try to turn a pigs ear into a silk purse.
