While the PLP Government has been moving with all possible haste to introduce a National Health Insurance, they are being told by the Medical Association of the Bahamas, the Bahamas Dental Association, the Nassau Institute, The Tribune and many other organizations and individuals that the plan they have proposed will not work.
So, where does the official opposition, the FNM, stand on this major issue?
Do they agree with the Government’s proposal? If so, then let them say so.
Do they disagree with the proposal? If so, have they considered an alternate plan?
There are other issues that we have been waiting for them to weigh in on - the educational crisis (yes, we did get a tepid statement from Mr.Turnquest), the unaccounted funds for the Hospital and Health Licensing Board, the CSME, the UN vote on Venezuela, this Government's relationship with Cuba.
We have to wonder then, why they can find their voices when an airport is being dedicated.
They can speak loud and clear concerning the speculation that Mr. Shane Gibson collected a cheque personally from Ms.Smith. Whether the permit for Mr. Marquis was hand delivered by the Minister or he collected it himself is just not important – just that he got it.
So, I come back to the NHI, a major issue that could adversely affect us and generations unborn and the FNM has been strangely silent.
Mr. Ingraham and Mr. Turnquest need to realize that political rallies, motorcades and pom poms just don't "cut it" with the voters anymore.
Their effort of late reminds me of the title of a book from a few years back “The sound of one hand clapping”.
