The history of Israel is intriguing to say the least. Suffice it to say that the Israeli people have been kicked around for many years (centuries) and so I have come to the conclusion that they are right in their present actions against Hezbollah.
Here's an anology:
You sit in school in front of the class bully and he keeps poking you or pulling your ear.
The first few days you ask him to stop. He ignores you and continues.
The next few days you swear at him quietly. Again he ignores you and continues poking, prodding and pulling.
All of a sudden you have a bad day and he pokes you hard enough to really hurt. You immediately turn around and punch him in the nose, as he falls back you kick him where it hurts. You realise you have the class bully on the ropes so you choke him until the teacher separates you.
And so it is with Israel. I believe they have simply had enough!
This article by J. Peter Pham & Michael I. Krauss at TCS Daily might help.
The lines where drawn for Israel by the League of Nations/The United Nations and agreed to by the world community a long time ago, but Hezbollah seems to have changed their mind.
As I said in this earlier blog, At the end of the day, I do not see a short term solution in a region with so many apparently disparate cultures and religions.
I wish I could see a long term solution.
