Believe it or not Cuba thinks they deserve a seat at the newly revised Human Rights Commission at the United Nations and they want the support of The Bahamas to help them obtain it.
Mr. Felix Wilson, the Cuban Ambassador went to great lengths in the Tribune this morning to suggest that Cuba has excellent human rights because they provide education and health care for their people. But he negelected to mention that people cannot leave Cuba if they wish because they are chattel to the all powerful state.
Oh, and how about their less than free elections and the way they treat people opposed to Castro's regime?
One thing we can count on in democracies is that sooner or later the bad is exposed and eventually corrected. That does not appear to happen in states like Cuba.
Check out this post at Bahama Pundit titled The US, The Bahamas, and UN Human Rights Reform for some more background on this important subject.
By the way, The Bahamas should withhold its support from Cuba in this bloggers not-so-humble opinion.
