The Constitutional Reform Committee (CRC) has reported and according to press reports one of the most significant issues is the CRC thinks we should not retain the Queeen of England as our "Head of State" because that means we are not really independent.
This seems trite as in the scheme of things the Queen is no more than a figurehead and has no real authority in our internal affairs as a country. But, it is good for our tourist product.
More on this another time but reading this article about George Mason makes one wish there were more 'radicals' like him in our country. Our politicians seem to take more and more power from the Courts forgetting individual liberty in the process.
Hopefully the crafters of our country's new Constitution will conisder some of the ideas of people like George Mason and John Locke and remember that the Courts were designed to settle disputes, not goverment ministers and the laws should be crafted with that in mind.
