Reports suggest that the Inter-American Development Bank will be lending The Bahamas millions of dollars to improve technical training in the country.
The politically correct thing to do is applaud them for the kind gesture to help the Bahamas Technical and Vocational Institute (BTVI) improve the skills of the many young Bahamian men that have been pushed through a failing public educational system.
However, we have seen initiatives like this before, but they have been little more than symbolism over substance. Oh yes there will lots of photographs of smiling politicians and bureaucrats but we doubt that very much will change.
