Johnnie Christie and Floating Boats - Song of the week - May 20, 2013 - Martyr

Well we got out to Crazy Johnny's on Saturday night for the Johnnie Christie and Floating Boats CD launch, and we're glad we did.

Not only was Johnnie in great form, the band (Johnnie Christie, guitar and lead vocal - from 25 North, Joe Euteneuer, lead guitar and vocals - from 25 North, Andrew Beckford, bass - from Sub Culture, Ricky Rolle, drums - from Sub Culture, Kyle Baley, keyboards - from 25 North) was exceptional.

I've got the "Memphis Blues Again"

Back on May 1, we went to Memphis, Tennessee for the first time and were lucky enough to take in the Beale Street Music Festival and more as you can see from the collage of tickets in the image. The city was great, the sight seeing was darn good, the food was wonderful, but the music was just amazing!

I just keep reliving the music in my head, that's why I say I've got the Memphis Blues Again. Thank goodness I wasn't stuck in Mobile with them, with apologies to Bob Dylan.

Brandon Santini - Song of the week - May 13, 2013 - What You Doing To Me

You are in for a treat.

We got to see Brandon Santini and his fabulous band (Jeff Jensen - Guitars, Bill Ruffino - Bass, & James Cunningham - Drums) at the Rum Boogie Cafe in Memphis recently. And man were they good.

So of course we picked up their CD, This Time Another Year and it's splendid from track one through track twelve.

Almost twenty years in the making, Johnnie Christie's debut album is now available, featuring his unique "rockalypso" sound and unique vocal style.

On May 18, come on out to celebrate the release at Crazy Johnny's. You'll hear songs from the album as well as new music. Tickets are $5 or FREE with the purchase of a CD (which will be available during the show).

Godley & Creme - Song of the week - May 6, 2013 - Five O'Clock In The Morning

I'm not sure if it's the haunting background vocals or the lovely piano riffs that draw me into this tune from Godley & Creme.

You might not know them, but they're British and spilt off from 10cc.

Five O'Clock in the Morning is from their Consequences LP released back in 1977.

Grateful Dead - Song of the week - April 22, 2013 - Throwing Stones

We recently saw, Ultimate Devotion, a tribute band to the Grateful Dead, and what an enjoyable night it was.

So I thought a Grateful Dead song was the right fit for today, and "Throwing Stones" is kinda neat.

Here's some of the lyrics:

Jethro Tull - Song of the week - April 15, 2013 - Part of the Machine

I heard Farm on the Freeway, an excellent song from Jethro Tull's 1987 release, Crest of a Knave, the other day and it reminded me what a good album it was. In fact, I think they actually won a Grammy for it if I remember correctly.

There's some excellent stuff on that album and I could have chosen either of ten songs from it, but for some reason the closing track, Part of the Machine, felt right this week. Hope you enjoy it below.

Zulu Panda - Song of the week - April 8, 2013 - Light The Skies

"HOPE ALL ABANDONED is the first independent album released by Zulu Panda - the folk-rock solo project of Cascadian songwriter Wesley David Scott."

"All tracks (on the digital album) written and performed by Wesley David Scott of Zulu Panda, except "Clementine" which contains performance instrumentation by Duke & The Robobabes and additional vocals by Sarah Weisz."

Wesley is the nephew of our good friends in Canada and we're delighted to support his project.
