I feel I must respond to Tradewinds comments in a previous post. I expected far better from him than regurgitated screams from low-IQ morons with a microphone shoved their face. Yes agreed the very awful tax was a disaster from the get-go, but, unfortunately we are saddled with it in the short term, so get used to it; ohh, and by the way, nobody, but nobody, Tradewinds included, make any noise about that other disastrous PLP tax imposed on an unsuspecting populous, the Environmental Levy, enacted just weeks into their government in July 2012. Of course, those collected funds should have gone into (in fact, should still be going into …) a separate trust account under the control of the Environment Minister, instead of the government slush fund, sorry, the consolidated fund, so monies would be available to take care of minor (sic) occurrences like the city dump fires!
I would also question mentioning an apparent Bahamian “brain drain,” implied, caused by V.A.T., pray tell where, on this fine Planet, would our brainy ones go where there is a V.A.T. or Sales Tax, substantially less than our proposed 12%?
The people voted the FNM into government for a five year term to right the wrongs, or at the very least START to right those wrongs of 30 years of questionable to bad governance and in particular the last five years under Mr. Perry Gladstone Christie's PM-ship, when it would appear cronyism and outright corruption was at its worst.
Nobody wants to pay taxes however, there is a cost incurred to maintain a safe, secure environment with the necessary infrastructure to maintain the reasonably acceptable lifestyles to which we have become accustomed.
I will close by wondering, if people are upset with this V.A.T. increase just wait until the N.I.B. problems are fully realized and just how that almighty problem is to be righted
