Bahamas Government spent $5.8 million to host the Miss Universe pageant

The news is out. The Government spent $5.8 million bucks to host the Miss Universe beauty pageant and it's not so much of a surprise.

From the outside looking in, it seemed like a tremendous success, particularly the ten minute ad during the actual pageant, so congratulations are extended to all concerned.

Unveiling of The Memorial Wall at New Convenant Baptist Church, Nassau, Bahamas

On Sunday September 27th, I attended the dedication and unveiling service for a Memorial Wall that has been erected by New Convenant Baptist Church on the East West Highway. What is important to me about this wall, is that it ensures that persons murdered in this Country are not just another number or crime statistic. The service was well arranged and in addition to Bishop Hall there were speakers such as Carlos Reid, The Hon. Tommy Turnquest and several others. I wish to commend Bishop Hall and New Convenant Baptist Church for undertaking and completing this project.

I won't elaborate on the details of the service, as this was covered in today's press. However, I write to say that if there was one message that came out of the service, whether through spoken word, expressions, comments and yes cries; it was that people in this Country are crying out for Justice.  It was clear from the expressions of many that they are far from closure because Justice has yet to be served.

Who then is responsible for ensuring that the administration of Justice is carried out in our Bahama Land??

Whether this is deliberate I don't know, but many movies made for children these days have strong moralistic messages that say: We human beings are the scourge of the universe! The recently very popular production of Michael Crichton's Jurassic Park onto the big screen is no exception even though the late author ended his life very skeptical about, for example, global warming alarmism. Steven Spielberg was, of course, the right candidate for bringing off the earlier morality tale to screen--wasn't his ET, for example, another case of finger wagging at ordinary people for being so heartless and cruel as to want to study the creature from outer space rather than, well, cuddle it with no questions asked?

It seems that you really dont like this country - all you do is complain about matters that exist with  government systems all over the world, whether conservative or liberal or  what ever name or ideology you can think of that governs countries around the world.
Make the best of what exists - provide real solutions to the officials if there is something to be improved and if no change is made - vote the governing part out.
Your complaints appear to be deep rooted - for reasons I dont know but it shines through your tone and style of writing....

In case you have not read about it, NIB has proposed increasing the legally mandated contribution (that's a fancy word for tax) to a total of 10.8% (from 8.8%) along with raising the ceiling form $400 to $600.

Crime & The Bahamas Government's Continued Inaction!

The Tribune's publication dated the 28th August 2009 reported the Minister advising the public that Hangings would begin again in the Bahamas and not to mention another "Zero Tolerance" policy in relation to crime. Now, almost 30 days later we have heard nothing more on the issue and the murder count continues to rise.

"Bloody Sunday":  What a headline on the 21st September 2009, so true and to take it one step further, we have experienced and continue to experience a bloody year.

So the other day I was awoken from my occasional complacency and shocked to be told that Glenn Beck, Fox TV's most recent addition of conservative commentators, has been calling himself a libertarian. Wow. That's all libertarianism needs, to have become the victim of this confusion or perhaps out and out distortion. Therefore let me spend a few paragraphs again on just what libertarianism is.
