The Bahamas Prime Minister lays it on the line. Another missed opportunity perhaps?

Yesterday I blogged about the Minister of State for Finance, Mr. Zhivargo Laing fumbling the ball when he had a great opportunity to lay it on the line with the Bahamian people about the seriousness of the country's debt load and the steps he would take to bring the debt to GDP ratio back in line.

Oh well, a missed opportunity.

I'm not sure why, but politicians tend to make careers out of promises to walk the talk regarding responsibility, accountability and transparency when they are in opposition. Once elected, many of them attempt to defend the indefensible.

A case in point is the debt level of The Bahamas as a percentage of GDP and Mr. Zhivargo Laing's recent pronouncements.

So Barack Obama got elected president of the United States of America, allegedly the freest country in the world and in human history, partly on the promise that he will redistribute a goodly portion of our wealth, yours and mine and everyone else’s. For some reason it has a familiar feel to it, and begs the question; Are 55 People responsible for all The Bahamas woe's?

Of course the 55 people in The Bahamas would be the the "Honourable Members" of both Houses of the Bahamian Parliament - 40 MP's and 15 Senators.

Lessons in Freedom: Against USA, Inc.

Just as in much of human political history the grossest error was to see society as the household of some leader--pharaoh, monarch, tsar, or dictator--in our era the mistake is to see society as a company or corporation that needs a CEO. Although in much of the West the political idea of monarchy, a country lead by one individual with various measures of powers--absolute to limited--has been traded in for democracy--one lead by and for all of the people--this has not proven to be a sufficient improvement.

Should the US pull out of Washington instead of Iraq?

A friend sent these interesting statistics said to be in a letter to Australian Shooter Magazine:

"If you consider that there has been an average of 160,000 troops in the Iraq Theater of operations during the past 22 months, and a total of 2112 deaths, that gives a firearm death rate of 60 per 100,000 soldiers -some of which were accidental .

The firearm death rate in Washington, DC is 80.6 per 100,000 for the same period.

That means you are about 25 per cent more likely to be shot and killed in the US capital, which has some of the strictest gun control laws in the US, than you are in a combat zone like Iraq.

Conclusion: "The US should pull out of Washington , DC ."

More on Politicians versus Business

Further to this post... it's Obama and his predecessors in government that created the financial fiasco precisely by giving cheap credit which, even being cheap, many could not repay in the first place.

But, back to home:

I am getting tired of producing in spite of government persecution through happenstance, bureaucracy, and arrogance when I do so knowing that I fund their idiocy including their interference in my business affairs.

Here's an example:
