Well what do you know, the day has come that Mr. Fred Mitchell, minister of foreign affairs, gets to open the Bahamian Embassy in Cuba.
Putting an embassy where a representative office would work just fine is an obscene waste of taxpayer dollars.
Not to mention the rumoured 100 guests that were flown down to Havana for the grand opening at taxpayer expense.
This must be a proud day for Mr. Mitchell though as he gets to poke another finger in the eye of the US, the country we depend on for most of our economic success. Something he seems to take delight in doing.
Not only is it a waste of money, it does not appear to support our traditional culture and values, nor does it work to build a more peaceful and secure region. It continues to fragment The Bahamas relationship with its number one trading partner.
Hopefully America will realise there are many Bahamians here that do not support this "knee jerk" approach to our foreign affairs.
But I am sure it will all be justified...at least in Mr. Mitchell's mind.
